Again going by maps only Achillies?

About as equally colder as adams last guess SW, ie. both Thetis & Achilles are colder than Perrins which was adams first guess.

Macs Mtn - only cos I've heard you have been there
Wed 16 Dec, 2009 6:53 pm
Hello stepbystep
stu asked me to proxy - and you are correct. It is Macs Mountain
The smaller mountain at the end of the ridge is Mt Nereus with the Eldons and West Coast Range behind.

shutup you or I'll show the next shot in sequence

Haha LOL.
Is that the one where you said "action shot" While I was struggling to climb up that cliff??
Wed 16 Dec, 2009 7:38 pm
Were you there?
Wed 16 Dec, 2009 8:40 pm
Before your banter - I thought the peak with the road might be Tim Shea, but I was thinking from a different direction.
So was this shot from Packers Spur or from the main ridge?
Its got to be from the top of Packers looking over to the main ridge? Oui?
Wed 16 Dec, 2009 8:55 pm
The Needles?
Wed 16 Dec, 2009 9:08 pm
eggs is close enough,
not from Packers spur but from one of the ridges between said spur and The Thumbs proper.

It was a fascinating description of your trip up the Thumbs.
Did you need to go over this part on the way back - or did you skirt around on the western side - but lower down?
Anyway - another place to guess

Hi eggs, we skirted around the Western side lower down as you say, navigating through the scrub aiming for clumps of rock - pretty thick baura etc, but the climb back up Packers spur was really open.
Good trip, I really enjoyed the clambering over the ridges on the way in, but pretty physically demanding.
re. your pic, I'm not sure, somewhere off the OT I think, haven't been through this area yet - will be fixing that soon

My 1st thought was Lake Ball way. But cannot reconcile the bluff in the BG. So nmore up in the Walls area. Maybe further out again, Solomons Jewels area?
Thu 17 Dec, 2009 8:41 am
It looks like the base of Little Horn on the right, with the southern parts of Cradle Mtn in the background in centre. It doesn't look like the artists pool...
checking my maps on the iPhone (using a fabulous new mapping application), and trying to line that up... looks like... Twisted Lakes?
Thu 17 Dec, 2009 8:56 am
Nik has it.
One of favourite spots - and the view of Cradle is a little out of the ordinary.
Tried to answer before, but blackberry is not allowing log in to give a reply. Curious - as it allowed login to check messages.

This is not right on any beaten track, but it's not far off a couple of well used tracks, and I don't think it'll be too hard.

My total guess at the rough area would be up past Lady Lake near Ironstone somewhere due to the look, high open terrain. But haven't been there so cannot even name the lake.
A little bit of snow, and the time of day suggests you were camping somewhere near. Must go looking at where you've been.

Hi Nik - it looks like the WoJ somewhere, eg Lk Sally, Sonja or Solveig.
Am I warm?
cheers

You're both in the right general region of the state, and WNW is a little closer than Tasadam, but I think Tasadams proposed strategy will find the answer very quickly.

Is it Clumner Bluff in the BG?
Thu 17 Dec, 2009 9:19 am
This is the second recent post related to recent trip reports.
Not sure about tasadam's suggestion for a photo duel competition, but this competition tests how much you are reading the other posts.
PS - really looking forward to visiting the same area in a few weeks time.
Also tasadam - how do you know what time of day this was? Can you see exif data?

How about Tiger Lake?

There is only limited exif data in this photo, no dates. It looks to me from the hill in the background that the light is more from one side, and quite brightly lit, suggesting either early morning or late afternoon. It is only an assumption based on what I see, the photo having that sort of mood to it as well with the dimly lit foreground.
I know Nik went to Daisy Lakes recently so I'll chuck that guess in, but if that isn't it I will leave it to someone else to search his posts, or better still, recognize the scene.

When I first saw it in person, I thought it was, but eventually figured out that Clumner Bluff is actually be well to the right of me (and was obscured by another high place very close at hand to my right which is out of shot).
It is certainly not the usual view of this peak and took me a while to pick it. From further up the hill it is a bit more obvious as a few more landmarks close to it are visible.
whynotwalk wrote:How about Tiger Lake?
Not Tiger Lake. We were originally planning to get to this spot by walking past Tiger Lake, but we went ended up going in via a shorter route (thanks to the advice of people on these forums).

Read? Read other posts, that is a bit laborious and a bit of an ask.
I would have said the low and muted light level indcates morning of evening. The low cloud / fog suggests more like morning than evening.

Long Tarns Nik?

When submitting photos to this game, I convert them to PNG (as a quick and dirty means of removing EXIF data), and then convert them back to JPEG (for better compression, albeit with a little loss of quality).

Yes, it is the Northern of the two Daisy Lakes. I'm fairly sure that's Mt Jerusalem in the background (the same peak is at the left of the bigger picture, below), but I could be wrong. This bigger picture from a little further up the hill later in the day shows some of the other WOJ peaks around it. Edit: At least it does not that I've attached it.

Click for full size.
So over to Tasadam, anyhow.
(ILUVSWTAS was very close... just over the ridge from there... if I turned around 180°, I'd be able to see the Long Tarns from the place this bigger picture was taken.)
