Mt Farrell
Thu 28 Jan, 2010 8:22 am
Yes, looking north from the Mt Farrell track, a really nice little walk;
(there was even a couple of plastic chairs at 2 spots along the track for those wanting a rest - very civilised!).
Over to you Peter...

Looking across Lake Sappho to Mt Olympus?
Thu 28 Jan, 2010 2:27 pm
You are definitely going to be right on the money eggs. Camped there January 09.
Thu 28 Jan, 2010 3:12 pm
Gosh yes your right eggs; that only lasted 20 minutes
Thu 28 Jan, 2010 3:31 pm
Sorry Peter
I normally wait a bit longer these days before having a go.
Must have been trigger happy.
The mountain seemed like Olympus - I am not aware of any others with the 2 flat tops like that.
I originally thought the lake would be the longer large lake to the south - but looking at the LIST - Lake Sappho was in the right position and would look large due to its east-west orientation.
Anyway - hope this is also a quick one:

Well that's Oakleigh and Pelion East so is the pic taken from Lake Windermere?
Thu 28 Jan, 2010 3:48 pm
I knew it would be quick.
Your turn Phil

This should be an easy one too, I'll be off-line for a while now so if someone is confident that they've got it, then keep the game moving

It has to be in the Walls of Jerusalem and I'd say you are on the track to Mt Jerusalem, looking back across Jaffa Gate to the Temple, with Solomons Throne behind. I will also be out for a couple of hours, so if anyone else agrees with me and can post a photo to keep things moving before I am back on line, that's great!

Spot-on Ian. Fantastic day it was too. On our way to Mount Jerusalem.
Fri 29 Jan, 2010 10:48 am
OK, here's a photo from my most recent walk. The spot where the photo was taken from is on named track.
Fri 29 Jan, 2010 3:01 pm
It's a bit of a stab in the dark, Ian - but are you on the Mt Maurice Track looking at Ben Lomond plateau?
cheers
Peter

Wrong half of the state
Fri 29 Jan, 2010 7:12 pm
Looks slightly, mildly almost like Quamby bluff.....
Fri 29 Jan, 2010 7:19 pm

You are moving in the right direction. This is a deceptive view of a well know prominence.
Fri 29 Jan, 2010 9:01 pm
Possibly Western Bluff
Fri 29 Jan, 2010 9:24 pm
You are right! - yes it's Western Bluff from . . . . . . . . . . . ?
Fri 29 Jan, 2010 10:04 pm
Looks like it could be from the Bridal Veil Falls track not far from Lemonthyme Lodge.

Your are spot on! Photo of Western Bluff taken from the lookout on the Bull Creek Road 4 wheel drive track from Lemonthyme Lodge to Bridal Veil Falls. Lake Cethana is in the valley below. Your turn
GerryDuke - well done

Thanks Tas-man. Been up the road many times looking for the right conditions to photograph the falls.
Waiting for more rain now!! One of the great short walks.
This one should be easy:

Looks high enough and flat enough to be up on Legges Tor / Ben Lomond area. Never been there though.

Not far away Adam. From Little Hell!! A great little short walk from the Ski Village. Stacks Bluff and Lake Youle are in the picture also. Have a go Adam.

Nice to know the state well enough to get the general area even tho I never been there...
OK here's one I found while sorting some photos this morning...
Sat 30 Jan, 2010 12:21 pm
This one threw me at first.
One look and I said - "easy - Moores Bridge". But when I got my recent photos out it just wouldn't fit.
So I had to think - where in Tas looks Moores Bridge?
Tweaked the image a bit and one of the dull bits at the back might have been Cradle - but there is no way it could be with the lack of other features around it.
Then it struck me - what about the linking ridge off Pelion West?
Back to Google Satellite and the bits fall into place - I think you are on Mt Achilles looking NW across the connecting ridge to Pelion West.
The tallest mountain at the right rear would be Mt Inglis and the vague "cradle" looking shape just to its left might be Mt Pearse edge on.
Sat 30 Jan, 2010 12:45 pm
My first thoughts were looking NW from the summit of Mt Inglis, but the ridge seemed too long and the far dip seemed too low. So your logic may win the day eggs.
Sat 30 Jan, 2010 12:55 pm
Google Earth makes Eggs argument pretty convincing, the circular ridge to the left directly in front looks spot on, Pelion West must be just out of frame to the right.
Sat 30 Jan, 2010 12:56 pm
This could well be me taking that very image above...

Your go Eggs, aka Gamus Champius

And before you argue the point that I couldn't possibly be looking that direction in this image, I already know. But it sounds good....
