No - I haven't been to Lake Ada or Fanny.
The peak is about 1420 m high and there is a rather large drop off on the other side of it.

That's right flyfisher.
The first was from the narrow southern end of the lake - which is the northern one of the pair.

[I thought SoB might have had a crack at this one after his report from Daisy Lakes]

Yes, I should have picked it but didn't. :-(

After reading FlyFisher's post I thought, "doh! that's gotta be it".

You're falling into the bad habit of posting photos from your most recent trip - just after you put up a link about it...

Its a habit a few of us are into.

That's the one! You can see the shoulder of Thetis, with Achilles, Perrins Bluff and the Lk Mackintosh fire all in the background.

Your turn ... and if you take Brian's advice you won't make it a photo on the Franklands

cheers

Well you have a rich supply ILUVSWTAS
Even this one is probably less than a 4 months old - (doesn't time fly?) - but that still gives you a lot to choose from.

So thinking that the valley with the small water segments to the left is the Gordon River valley with Lake King William,
I suspect you are on the way up Restoration Hill in the King William Range looking back on the Prince Rupert Tarns

That's looking Arthurs-like, eggs. Is that a hint of Scotts Pk Road in the right background? Anyway the exact location is not familiar enough to me 25+ years later. Or else it's somewhere I didn't get to back then.

So ... process of elimination ... is it Promonory Lake?

cheers

Peter

The white rock is quartzite and looks Arthurish - but this is not the Western or Eastern Arthurs.
Not a road in the background. (Though - there is a road that goes through there - it is not in view)

Okay - then I'll head nor-west from the Arfurs, and stop near the west coast. For instance in the West Coast/Tyndall Range. It's not pure quartzite, but is certainly metamorphic with some quartzite. I'm groping a bit here, but what about Lake Rolleston?

Hmm - much closer than the Arthurs, but not from the West Coast Range.
Hint - If you could zoom in on the mountains right at the back you would find they were the pink/purple West Coast Conglomerate, but this is pure quartzite.

Okay - last roll of the "hazy-geological memory" dice. Your hints have it sounding more like the Frenchmans Cap area. But the lake??? Gwendolen??

Yes - got there.

This is looking over Lake Gwendolen from the back of the Lion's Head - with a patch of Lake Burbury (your "road") and Macquarie Harbour showing and Mts Juke, Darwin and Sorell at the back

Hmmm - that's a big (ball)park Phil, even if you're in the right one!

At least name a few mountains or the place I'm standing (which is off track, but near a named place),
