Why do they do that?

Yes, only announced a day or two back. The entire Richea genus has been subsumed into Dracophyllum.
Why? Probably because the taxonomists were bored and decided to mess everyone around. It happens more often than most people realise. For instance, both platypus and echidna are commonly so known because they were the original generic names given to them, and then someone realised those names had already been allocated to completely different animals (in both cases, some obscure invertebrate, IIRC).
As with fagus, we will still all call that *&%$#! stuff scoparia.
