No - it is in the West Coast Range
Mon 26 Apr, 2010 11:07 am
Is it from the top of Mt Owen
Mon 26 Apr, 2010 11:12 am
We finally got there - yes it is from the top of Mt Owen looking south over Huxley to Jukes, Darwin and Sorrell with Macquarie Harbour to the right.
The slopes of Mt Owen are more vegetated these days.

Looks like it could be taken from Mt Picton.
Mt Weld in the background?
Mon 26 Apr, 2010 1:12 pm
That one didn't last long, over to you stubowling
Oh by the way thanks for the excell lists.
Mon 26 Apr, 2010 4:11 pm
No problems Bap.
Sorry for the delay here, sometimes work so rudely interrupts.
the next one...
p.s. if no one gets this before 5pm ILUVSWTAS can act as proxy for me hopefully.

All quiet on the western front..
Well initial reaction was "is that Diamond Peak?" - but then I got my glasses on.
No - it looks more like the prominence above Haven Lake - and that would make Taurus on the right and Alderbaran in the gap between.
That would place you back around the Beggary Bumps - but given the angle I suspect you have to be a bit further north than that and you may be on Mt Shaula.
Mon 26 Apr, 2010 9:33 pm
Pretty good Eggs. Close enough, It was taken on the saddle between the Beggarys and Shaula. Was a long day to Shaula and back from Haven lake, but wasnt as scrubby as we had feared.
Your go Eggs.
Mon 26 Apr, 2010 9:46 pm
That's funny - I originally wrote that it was from the saddle - but then thought that maybe you were further up and would consider it Shaula proper, so I rewrote it.
Afraid this one is another scan of a very small slide:

mt madge
Tue 27 Apr, 2010 10:01 am
I'm not on Mt Madge - nor is that the peak across the valley.
The larger lake is man made - but is quite historic.
However - Madge might be just out of the picture in the rightside distance

Mt Geikie overlooking Lake Margaret?
Tue 27 Apr, 2010 11:27 am
Thats it Tas-man - from the top of Geikie - with Sedgewick across the valley. Frenchmans Cap is buried in cloud behind.

Here's something to keep the pace going. Don't think it has appeared in the competition before. Name the river and where I am standing.

Spot On
Bap! Always amazes me that I can take a photo like this only 5 minutes walk from the Launceston CBD.
Thought it would be an easy one for a local. Your turn.

This will be quite a stab in the dark...
It looks like the (Tasman) Peninsula area.
How about Deep Glen Bay / Deep Glen Bluff?
Tue 27 Apr, 2010 3:31 pm
mount brown from dauntless point
Tue 27 Apr, 2010 4:14 pm
This one reminds me of an old one posted by ILUVSWTAS.
Now I need to just find it...
[Edit - found it - it was Bruny Is and ILUVSWTAS won it - what a crummy memory - definitely not this place..

]
[2nd Edit - I think stu will have it - somewhere around that northern part of that headland looking north. Which would make the distant land part of Maria Is.]

Keep guessing
Tue 27 Apr, 2010 7:14 pm
Waterfall bay?
Tue 27 Apr, 2010 7:49 pm
The north headland is called Cape Surville - is that what you were after?
Tue 27 Apr, 2010 8:14 pm
Yep, I'm on Cape Surville.
Tue 27 Apr, 2010 8:19 pm
Looks like a very interesting spot to visit.
Anyone else can post the next one

Hmmm, I think it's Collins Cap from Thark Ridge or maybe from Tom Thumb?
