I was wondering why some of the kangaroos were lacking heads.

I was very confused!
I initially thought this was on Inchconnachan, where wallabies run free in Loch Lomond!
https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/wal ... dy%20Arran.
But it didn't at all fit with how Ben Lomond or other mountains appear from there...so I had thought about further north but couldn't find any other wallaby/kangaroo populations up that way...The stain glass just confused me more!

Yeah I spent some time looking for kangaroo and wallaby populations in the UK as well creeping moses. But it was the profile of Ben Nevis in the stained glass that clenched it.

Mt Rosa?

Monte Rosa is not the right mountain. My mountain is however almost right on the border of the country that Mt Rosa is in.

This mountain is also very close to the one I was sitting on.

Zwillinge?
Edit - Punta Castore looking at Punta Polluce?
Mon 03 Oct, 2022 5:49 pm
I think I will have to give that to you eggs. I was sitting on Pollux. The second photo was of Breithorn which we climbed on the same day. Your turn eggs.

Curious - re your 2nd shot - my analysis of my photos was thinking that the snow was on the northern slopes,
but I suspect you may have been on/near the Klein Matterhorn and the snow was on the southern slopes?
Anyway - next one is staying in Europe

I think from memory the photo of Breithorn was looking back at it as we were retuning toward the chairlift.

The town in the valley is quite well known.
We were at the top of a cable car run about to do a walk past a number of lakes.

I can probably work it out but I'll leave it for someone else cause I'm heading out bush in couple of days and maybe off grid.

Almost a week - so we will say this is from the top of Rothorn overlooking Zermatt
Anyone to post next.

To keep moving, what is this urban but isolated national park in the USA:

- Alcatraz historic penitentiary, Golden Gate NP via San Francisco, California USA

A bird-lover's Paradise.

Assuming you're referring to a well documented previous "guest" of this establishment, yes.
This is Alcatraz, these days part of the Golden Gate National Parks around San Francisco.
Fascinating place to visit. All yours.

Lancaster at his best. Apol's but none of my old o/seas photos are scanned.
This is off the web, in south Asia, visited in '77. Always cold and even then a dangerous place for a dip. But also now a National Park.

Probably more dangerous these days for other reasons. I think this is one of the Band-e Amir lakes in Afghanistan, possibly Band-e Kambar.
Tue 01 Nov, 2022 2:03 pm
That's right - Band-e Amir National Park these days. I guess Afghanistan counts as south Asia, one of the seven 'stans'. High into the mountains west of Kabul.
The bath tub effect at Pigsty Ponds reminded me of the same at this place. A French woman was shot while swimming there before we arrived and the news spread along the Hippy trail. There were just two, short Lonely Planet guides back then: South-East Asia on a Shoe String and Across Asia on the Cheap.
Take it away.

For some years I worked with a lady who had fled Afghanistan with her family.
She spoke of a physically beautiful country but with many horror stories.
