No. Not King or Murchison. I'll narrow it down a bit by saying it's nowhere on the King or Pieman power schemes. In terms of clues, that'll do for now. I want to see if anyone who has fished this lake recognises where our five year old son was drowning worms.

Not King William or any other lakes in the Derwent catchment.

As I'll be away from a computer after work, I'd better drop some better hints:
Two named rivers join at this location to form a river with a different name. Before the dam, the confluence of those two rivers would have been in this photo.

I guess I should leave it to fishermen to answer - but when I first saw this I thought Mersey-Forth area.

Then the generous clue was given - ruling out most of that scheme - except one.....
Since tastrekker wants an answer - I will try - but anyone who has fished here needs to let him know.
Iris and Lea Rivers combine to form the Wilmot - and from the map that conjunction would have been just in front of the dam wall for Lake Gairdner.
I suspect I would have seen this lake from the Cradle Mountain road, but it's name is not familiar to me at all.

Well done Eggs. You got Mersey-Forth correct without assistance. The only other dam I can think of which fits my obvious clue is Lake Rosebery where the Mackintosh and Murchison Rivers combine to form the Pieman which I had eliminated earlier.

You may not have seen Lake Gairdner. It is only visible as a fleeting glimpse through the trees on a winding stretch south of Moina. This photo is looking into the gorge of the Lea River over a promontory sticking into the lake just south of the boat ramp.

I think the naming of the rivers is a hint at the way the area was explored. In the early 1800s the road from Launceston to Emu Bay (Burnie) passed by the Iris and Lea valleys. At this point, the coastal strip had some European influence but the dense bush between the coast and the inland road was largely unknown. Hence, I expect the Iris and Lea Rivers had names before it was known they formed the river which had been named the Wilmot by early coastal explorers and farmers.

Please forgive me my diversion. I enjoy links with the past. My last 'where-am-I' post also had a link to past track locations with Native Track Tier. I think our indigenous forebears also avoided the dense bush of the NW coast and used the more sparsely vegetated valleys further south as a major route from A to B.

Having limited time in Tas I try to pack in a lot of walking, but given the number of entries now, a few of my shots are very touristy.
You are close enough to get the nod - but I don't know where you start point was

This was a 10m walk - to the platform at King William Saddle on the Lyell Highway.
A nice view of Ronald Cross and also Frenchman's Cap from this spot.

I shouldn't have done that. Now I have to dig out a photo, AND nominate a proxy 'cause I won't be back online until Monday night . . .

Small world SBS . Yes you've got it, part way up Little Hugel. From memory I may have been standing next to the tree in your/our shots at one point. Here's the view looking the other way:
