Are you looking out at the Watcher from the shelf circuit??
Sat 21 Aug, 2010 10:08 am
Incorrect
Sat 21 Aug, 2010 11:56 am
Are you looking back from near Mt Field West?
Sat 21 Aug, 2010 11:57 am
Not on Field West, I have made a cunning crop on this one or it would be too easy....
Sat 21 Aug, 2010 12:38 pm
Approaching Florentine Peak, Field West would be further along the ridge at the back

Nope.
I saw you had car troubles today J, that's too bad, Sentinels will have to wait...

yeah, alternator needs fixing, not worth risking the battery life by heading out there.
Sat 21 Aug, 2010 8:06 pm

So we can now see Florentine Peak?
Would that place on/near Mt Mawson looking back at the Rodway Range?

Somewhere near Lake Bill?
Yeah, I'll stick with that. Approaching Lake Bill. Looks like you've passed most of the buttongrass and Bill is only a few hundred metres, if that. Rogoona in the background.
Sat 21 Aug, 2010 11:02 pm
Of course, there is the possibility that you have not yet passed all the buttongrass, and rather than ploughing through it with the roughly staked trail, you are taking the less known track to the east, just up the hill a fraction, missing the bog in the middle of the buttongrass plain.
I'd need to do some photo checking to be sure which.

You have it tasadam - nearing Lake Bill after passing through Blizzard Plain.
[It does flank a length of forest after the plains but before the lake. Photos indicate it was about 20 min to the lake after that shot.]

Too hard, or quiet day?

Bit of both I think Adam, I assume it's up North there somewhere, my first thought was around Mole Creek/Alum Cliffs type area, but I wouldn't know....

Well you've got the right half of the state.
There is a popular viewpoint almost in this photo, but it cannot be seen from here. I am about at the start of a walking track that is signposted. I am on a road.
Sun 22 Aug, 2010 7:03 pm
The walking track that commences about an underarm tennisball away from where I am, goes down to a well constructed, solid, steel walking bridge...
The more popular destination here is somewhere on the hills on the right side of my photo. Again, can't be seen from here.
More clues?

You're struggling to get much action here tasadam, so here are a few random thoughts from a Queenslander.
Until I read that last post I was thinking it looked a little bit like Leven Canyon area from the south - perhaps looking at Griffith ridge area with lookout out of view to the right of picture. Its been a while since I was around there - I dont recall any steel bridges.

A fine and sunny 17 degrees in Hobart today - everyone is out!! Classic view of Leven Canyon Isoma. A great walk to the canyon floor across the steel bridge. No doubt it would be going off now after all the rain.

The Queenslander has it! Anything mentioning Leven Canyon is close enough.
This PDF file mentions the Leven Canyon Floor walk, the bottom of page 1 has a photo of the steel bridge.
This brochure has a description of the walk as well.
And here is a map, with the mouse pointer positioned about where the photo was taken from.

Getting pretty close to PB?
Mon 23 Aug, 2010 9:37 am
Nope, not PB Adam.
Mon 23 Aug, 2010 10:15 am
Thwaites Plateau?
Edit - I can see Thwaites is a bit lower - so maybe from around Hanging Lake looking back to the rock ridge above Thwaites
2nd edit - forget all that - no idea. The foreground is so pixellated I think it is much further across than I first thought.
Mon 23 Aug, 2010 11:50 am
If eggs has no idea we're all stuffed... Maybe a hint, what's the round bump (mountain) in the distance on the right?
Mon 23 Aug, 2010 12:20 pm
Eggs is close
