Re: Game: Where-is-it? (international)

Disappointingly, there were no little mermaids to be found in the tarn.

This is dragging on a bit and you have helped me out before Moh, so I'll return the favour. I couldn't figure the mermaid clue but my research suggests this is Harman Pass in the Arthur Pass area. I gather not for the inexperienced or underprepared. The pass further on could be Whitehorse Pass? My only visit was lunch in the village during a torrential downpour. Walking was out of the question.

Correct on both accounts John. Apologies for the poor clue. I am camped beside Aerials Tarns :)

Ah, I'll be in trouble if I tell my 8 yo granddaughter I didn't get it :). Looks a cool location in any case.

If I'm correct, I'll be visiting this lake again next time I'm in NZ. Lake Howden, Routeburn track?

Yes - nice spot next to the hut.

Re: Game: Where-is-it? (international)

Yes it is. I believe the hut was lost in a landslide a few years back. I'm walking the routeburn later in the year with a couple of groups of friends who have never been on a multi-day walk. There will be 11 of us :), so a quarter of the quota. I expect that I will think of this post as we relax by the lake on the final day.

Jumping over to Europe. Name this building nestled in the mountains.

I've watched a few docos featuring the remote Currour station in the highlands.
Not the small loch right next to it but I'm guessing these islets could be in Loch Ossian?

Looks a fair whack like the Queens Drive up the very top left corner. Would that put you on Queenstown Hill?

Yes I'm probably near the top of Queenstown Hill track. Looking at the Remarkables I think.

I was able to see the hill where the last photo was taken from, from the place I was standing to take this photo!

Hard to see the background detail. Maybe looking towards Frankton/Frankton Arm from the Remarkables?

Yes, I'm on the Queens Drive, a goat track winding across the western face of the Remarkables. In the left of my photo is Queenstown and the aforementioned hill.

Thanks. I could just make out it was Queenstown, a bit of detective work to guesstimate your location.

Not Lake Hawea, I'm probably 200 kms or so from there by road.

That would put you smack bang in Tekapo.
Don't have enough in the foreground to decide if it's from the Sheepdog Statue or the Old Stone Church.
