Blaxland Station Florabella Pass Loop - with stop at Pool

Postby CalisthenicCommando » Wed 10 Oct, 2012 6:50 pm

Hey everyone,

I am beginner-intermediate bushwalker (few past walks and army service).

Next weekend I want to take my girlfriend, and 6-year-old son on the Blaxland Station Florabella Pass Loop (we will be stopping via the Boulder Pool also).
The course is ranked a 4/6 Grade, is 4.5 kms long, and will take approx 2.5 hours.

My girlfriend, and son, have never done bushwalking before. Besides the obviously physical pressure, is this walk okay for beginners? Is there any significant dangers?

I am more concerned about my girlfriend, as my son and I have trekked all over Israel about two years ago, so despite his age, he is more than up for it.

There are probably easier walks as an introduction to walking for her, the return walk from Faulconbridge to Numantia Falls would be a good introduction, still a medium uphill on the way back out but an impressive spot to visit, especially after all this rain.

Just make sure she is wearing a good set of shoes suitable for walking and let her rest often, and let her look at all the things to see on the way, plenty of waterfalls etc.

Cheers

A lovely walk especially for the wind eroded rock formations. However, I would advise against the detour to Boulder Pool for beginners. The track is very degraded and very steep. It is also very difficult to spot the start of the side track. However, for future reference the start is by a wooden sign 'Florabella Pass' where the track from Ross Crescent meets the main pass track.
