Kosci Main Range walking in November

Postby LAMEA-Gals » Mon 15 Nov, 2010 9:59 am

Has anyone been down bushwalking to the Charlottes Pass area in the last month - I'm heading down in 2 weeks and was wanting to find out what the snow drift situation was like - ie is there alot of drifts to negotiate? Particularly in the Mt Tywnam/Mt Townsend area.

Hi LAMEA-Gals,

I have not been up that way recently but I have a feeling that with all of the rain we are having at the moment there will not be that much snow up high, from reports I am getting a lot of the creeks and rivers in the area might be difficult to cross though.

I hope to be up that way on the 27-29 November, going up Hannels Spur from Dr Forbes Hut.

Did a quick overnighter at porcupine rocks opposite perisher on tuesday 9th. Drove from sydney after lunch, walked in under torchlight then back out at lunch time.

Didnt go round the main range but from charlottes looked like about a 25% cover around the biger hills/mtns. If it was me i'd prob take snowshoes but thats just cos i have them- probably doable without- just a few sinking sections/streches- probably not more than 100m at a time.

Thanks Robert for the report. Sounds like most of it has melted and can be negotiated. I'm sure this weeks rain has knocked alot off too.

Cheers
