Mate and I want to try walk up Kosioscko this Saturday...

Thoughts anyone? We have plenty of winter gear and thought winter walking might be more fun than in the summer

Umm, do you have skis or snowshoes and have you checked the forecast ? More rain in a front, followed by possible snow above about 1800m, with the accompanying winds of a cold front. Personally I thinki walking time has finished up there but only you know your experience level.

Some mates up there last weekend as an indication: http://forums.ski.com.au/forums/ubbthre ... ost1658593
The road to CP has since been cleared.
There may have been some snow loss but it's been cold and clear up high.

It was called Mount "Kosciusko" up until 1997. I heard the name might be being changed again, to shooters hill..

Having learnt to spell the name Kościuszko correctly, the next step is to learn to pronounce it correctly. The pronunciation of Tadeusz Kościuszko's name can be found here.

Unsurprisingly, the commonly heard "Kossi-osko" isn't even close. :) :)

Lol

I meet a bunch of Polish people when I launched my snowies book. They I think I heard ten different ways of saying Kosciuszko. Life would be so much easier with a Z :)

Sorry to have taken this somewhat off topic. It is a great walk, ESP with snowshoes. Though the road to CP is closed in winter, there are other access point and Oversnow transport from Perisher.

Matt :)

Well, I can hardly listen to the audio but, if anyone wants a basic guide, it goes roughly like this:
Three syllables.
1) Kos. As in cost without the T. Keep the vowel short and clean.
2) choosh. As in chook, with a sh instead of the k. The vowel isn't excatly really short but nor is it really long. Kind of short-medium if you know what I mean.
3) ko. Just like the first syllable, only without the s. And, once again, resist the urge to lengthen the vowel.

See, that was simple, wasn't it? Our next lesson will be 'Strzelecki'.
