Long Nose Lkt.

Sat 24 Nov, 2012 1:15 pm

After more than 30 years I thought it was time to pay this wonderful lookout a return visit. I parked at the gate at the end of Long Nose Ridge near the Wattle Ridge car park. Lest at 7:00AM after a good drive from Sydney. It started out overcast but the sun would be out later. The ridge is somewhat monotonous and many may prefer to ride their MTB instead. At the second gate though the sign says walkers only, because you are now in the catchment boundary. Not far before Centre ridge Trail there is a small dam where i decide to cool off as the day is warming up. Another big turn off is passed on the left and then the W11D turnoff that leads to the lookout. Towards the end the track rises steeply and ends right at the lkt itself.

Perched right on the edge of the East Nattai Walls the view is fantastic. Immediately below is the junction of Martins Ck and the Nattai River. On the other side of Martins Ck is Grant Head. Opposite is the clifflined Wanganderry Tableland with the breech of Travis Gully leading to Beloon Pass. In the western distance is Yerranderie Pk. Byrnes Gap. and the Blue Breaks. Simply wonderful. I get the camera out only to find that the battery is flat! so phots will have to await a return visit.

Nothing for it but to head back to the car. I was back by 11. Excellent little trip.

Hi Kanangra, have only just seen your post. I don't think this lookout is very well known anymore. Was there myself with my 15yo son recently, for the first time in 15 years. No description of it could possibly do it justice, I reckon it ranks with Drawing Room Rocks as one the best lookouts in the district.

Couldn't agree with you more. Very seldom visited I would say. excellent view though. Fair comparison with Drawing Room Rocks although Long Nose has more of a wliderness feel to it. What I wondered as i stood there was if a way could be had through the cliff lines direct from the lookout to the valley below? I thought I saw a way off to the right but couldn't be sure.

Another trip I've wondered about is up through the Martin's ck canyon. I'm not sure if it goes but I'd like to find out.
