Mobbs Swamp

Anyone been into Splendour Rock lately - what is the water situation at Mobbs Swamp? Both NPWS at Blackheath and a bushwalker friend from Upper BM expressed some concerns. Thanks John

I haven't been there recently, but there should definitely be water. It held water pretty much right through the last drought (although the quality can get iffy in dry spells). The biggest worry about getting water from Mobbs is not knowing where the grotty little duke of ed / scout kids have been crapping!
You'll also find Mobbs and Splendour Rock are still very much closed following the hazard reduction burn. They reopened the fire trail to Medlow Gap today, but the rest of the walking tracks will be closed a bit longer. So not sure when you're planning to visit (http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/natio ... x?id=N0004)

Was there last week, just before the fire. water is there, but make sure you filter it. I have found used pads in the creek just downstream of the cave. The best place to get it is either that pool in the far end of the cave region, or the dripping water above that goes down to the pool. But that whole area will be devastated by the fire ( check the PDF map that has been posted on the RFS website ) basically that whole area will have been burnt out, and is still closed as of today.
PS: FC, LOL I was there one time and about 30 kids were doing DOE, and the first thing I thought was that these kids will not go 25+ METERS FROM THE CAVE/CREEK TO PEE/POOP IN THE NIGHT, AND THAT IS WHY i never TRUST THE WATER THERE. But, the last few times I've been there, there have been plenty of frogs singing away at night- does that mean it is reasonable?

It just means human gastro lurgies don't affect frogs. Luckily frog lurgies don't seem to affect people or we would be treating ALL water sources.

There was a massive group of school kids camped there on ANZAC day. So I decided to get water from Breakfast Creek instead (although there looked to be plenty there).
