Pass on Mt Tarn

Sun 19 Oct, 2014 9:59 am

Has anyone found and used the pass on the NE cliff-line of Mt Tarn in the Budawangs. This is not the saddle between Mt Tarn and Mt Haughton but rather the pass you would use to get to the CC at the SE of Mt Tarn and then to get to the veiwing point of Crooked Falls. Replies appreciated either within this forum or to rennat.y.rag@gmail.com. Cheers rennat.

I assume this is the one marked on the Budawangs sketch map. Roughly at 427,952 where the toppo map shows a break in the cliffs. Did it decades ago, and as I don't remember anything about it, it probably was not difficult!

From Pigeon House and Beyond Pg. 68.
"At the base of Mount Tarn a large cave is found. The pass onto Mount Tarn is located just before a rock pinnacle (not the one holding up the cliff wall). This entails some rock scrambling."

Thanks for response Garbeach, was aware of article in Pigeonhouse and beyond but we want to descend not ascend. The sketch map seems to indicate the pass is found close to a large and smaller rock outcrop, we tried several pushes in that area but found nothing however before my mate 'blew' a boot we did see what appeared to be a small return off the cliffline to the S of the rock outcrops... ring any bells

Sorry, but no. We also were coming up, having camped on Hollands Ck. It was in my early days of walking, so was before I started taking notes of such things. Other than the leader, who moved to Coonabarraban soon after, I can't even remember who else was on the walk to ask. Actually, until I read your opening post, I had forgotten I'd even been there. Would have been nearly 30 years ago.
