Help me! I am lost!!

Mon 20 Oct, 2014 5:15 pm

Hi I just moved here.

Specifically in the Sutherland Shire area.

The Royal is nice, however, I want to go bushwalking where I can go in the bush, off the trails, and hopefully take some photos of rare animals that are shy of areas frequented by humans. Going off the tracks or camping in not a camp ground is banned in the RNP!!!

Is there anywhere around here where I can do this, also where there is perhaps a water supply such as a freshwater river so I can resupply my drinking needs along the way?

I could go for a week, easily, but 2-3 days/nights is fine.

Please help me!!

Check out the Mount Solitary area, it is nice particularly the circuit.
There are some nice walks up in the Barrington Tops, almost alpine swamp land in parts...

How far are you happy to travel? There are lots of good areas, just depends what your preferred distance/terrain/difficulty is.

You could always camp in one of the Royal NP campgrounds and do day trips, or heaven forbid, camp in one of those "illegal" bush camps in the Royal for a night or two.

Morton NP, Nattai, Blue Mountains are all worth a look.

Pick up the books "Bushwalking in the Sydney Region" by Lord and Daniels. Find one of the tracks that suits ( like Glenbrook, Starlights Trail, Breakfast Creek etc) and then veer off into an adjacent patch of bush that looks suitable on the topographic map. You won't need to go far to get away from the crowds.
