Overnight walk in New England or Oxley Wild Rivers area

Hi there,

I'm looking for recommendations for a winter walk around the New England tablelands region or nearby. We've got babysitters lined up in Kempsey, so anywhere within a couple of hours from there would be good. Coast would be lovely, but I can't think of anything particularly long, so I'm leaning towards hinterland.

Would prefer track walking but not afraid of a bit of navigation. Let me know if you have any suggestions. Thanks!

Yuraygir Coastal walk from Station creek to Wooli river is a lovely wild walk.
A low tide crossing at Station ck to start, then negotiate pebbly, sandy,
kelpy bays & rocky headlands all the way to the wide, swift flowing Wooli river before retracing your footsteps.
Keep your eye out for small discreet camp areas along the way.
Lots of wildlife encounters. Beware of mosquitoes in the evening.
Lovely windswept, salty overnight walk.

Hi ofuros, thanks so much for that suggestion. I hadn't thought of Yuraygir and didn't know about the coastal walk there. It looks like a lovely option.

Another option, if you don't mind river crossings & a thigh pumping grind back up to the plateau, the Guy Fawkes River walk is an overnight circuit.

The river valley can also be accessed via the Bicentennial National Trail at Marengo Station with distant views of Marengo falls from along the ridge.
As an overnighter you would probably return via that same ridge. Again a heart pumping walk back up to the plateau.
If your lucky, you might even spot some wild Brumbies while your exploring.
Just check the weather & river heights for the Guy Fawkes @ Ebor river before going, as it can swell to a mighty big powerful

Doesn't help you this time around,
but the New England Wilderness walk is one to keep in mind for the warmer summer months.
With a side trip to Crescent ridge, the weathered rim of the extinct Ebor volcano. Through walk. 3-4days.

Hi ofuros, so much to take in! Thanks for all the suggestions. Have been too busy to have a proper look, but Guy Fawkes looks interesting too. I also have very fond memories of camping at Thungutti last time I was up that way (about 10 years ago) so it might be nice to just camp and do some daywalk explores from there.
