Hi All
We are walking the Kanangra to Katoomba track early in October over 3 days but don’t have much local experience with that part of the mountains. Can anyone please provide any advice on water requirements as follows:
- Is there a reliable water source at the start of the walk or at Dance Floor cave (we will probably sleep a night there before staring the actual walk)?
- How is Dex Creek and Mobbs Swamp looking recently in terms of reliable water sources, and given we have filtering equip?
- How exposed is the walk to direct sun (hence more water and cover-up clothing required)?
Thanks
Perry

Hi Perry,
My 2c...
Kanangra creek near Kanongaroo clearing is usually quite good. Mobbs is usually fairly reliable but fairly gross.
The start of your walk will be fairly exposed as you walk along the rocky platform. If you are finishing via narrowneck, that can also get pretty hot. Much of the rest of the walk is in probably 65-70% shade?
Cheers,
J.

Dex Creek was looking good 4 weeks ago when I went past.

Suggest you pick up water for the start at Boyd River campsite about 5 km from the start as you drive in. If dry at Dex Creek just walk downstream until you reach a small pool below a small waterfall. May need to boil or steralise if not flowing. At Mobbs Swamp there is water to the north of the camping area down in the obvious creek. There is also an overhang here where you can shelter in bad weather.

Thanks everyone for the tips. Much appreciated. We head off this weekend and it looks like being fine weather but much hotter than expected. Access to water will be important
