hi all, im planning a trip from sydney to adelaide on the bike, i'm having a hard time finding out if these are allowed, or prohibited by fire bans would it be legal (and safe) to set up a campfire or gasifier stove between sydney and adelaide in the peak of summer?
A total fire ban means no fires outside, except in very limited cases http://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/fire-informat ... -ban-rules So if staying in a camping area with gas barbeques cooking may be allowed on them but not your own burner. There may also be park fire bans which allow using your own gas burner under certain conditions.
There usually aren't a lot of total fire ban days but park fire bans are more common, and some parks may have fires banned for the summer.
The best idea is to allow for this with some main meals that don't need cooking, or picking something up in a town.
By and large, a wood gasifier will often be banned because it is a wood fire. Sensibly, just don't do it. Use a canister stove instead. They usually are quite legal.
Cheers Roger EDIT: as Mark has correctly pointed out, during a TOTAL fire ban nothing is permitted outdoors. Expect sandwiches or Maccas instead.

Since this is a trip which may involve at least 3 states then each state should be researched. Much better to go to the web pages for each state than ask people on a blog because there is a good chance of not getting accurate information. Canister stoves are not legal during total fire bans if you are outside. Anything that may cause a fire is banned. This includes welding and grinding and they prefer no slashing. All naked flames are a no no as far as I interpret the information on the relevant sites. If still in doubt then there are phone numbers for you to speak to a person and you can ask questions.
