Corang loop access?

Thu 21 Nov, 2024 9:34 pm

Hi all,

I'd love to do the Corang loop again (via burrumbeet camping caves, corang cascades/lagoon, twin falls, Goodsell Gorge etc), but I havent been through that area for 10+ years. I've heard that the access has changed due to recent private land closures. Does anyone have a gpx or similar of the current route?

Thanks!
Joel

Assuming you're starting and finishing at Wog Wog and not the new/alternative route over Smiler's ck, It's the lagoon area that's blocked, but a new track circumvents the private property. Coming from either end the detour is pretty obvious, big signs and fences... from the east (anti-clockwise loop) you hit a fence and turn at right angles (left) and follow a new pad for a couple of k's til it rejoins the old track just where it descends into the deepish creek (old water race) to the east of Goodsell Ck. Coming from the other direction the detour is also obvious. Overall only adds maybe another 15 mins more than the old route took and still a great walk.

This map posted at the junction 'here' shows the new route (15,16) compared with the old track (41).

hi
It might be helpful to know that there is a thread that has been running for several years on this issue (access to Corang Lagoon and the sale of public wilderness land to a private owner) on this forum
It is called
Private Property signs on Corang Loop
(sorry dont know how to provide a link)
Also for those that are interested I will post a pdf copy of the map there if I can work out how

Does anyone know who last month removed the signs that have been up showing the new legal bypass? And the reason?

By the way there is a 5th "Reclaim the Lagoon Walk" being held on 7-8 Dec. All walking will be on legal rights of way.

For more info please also see the face book group Keep Corang Open
or leave questions on the Bushwalk.com / Private Property signs on Corang Loop thread

The main thread is at

Discussion about the closure is best done there.
