Gosh. I hope he's ok. They're out and about at the moment. I've seen a few whilst out walking the last few weekends and my father in law went to grab a 'stick' out of the pool skimmer box yesterday only to have the head of a tiger snake dart around.

I'm surprised that I haven't seen any snakes yet when out walking (mostly in the Blue Mountains). I see plenty of lizards sunning themselves but no snakes.

I wear knee-high gaitors whenever I am off-track, although have been thinking I should wear them more often.

Does anyone know of instances of people being bitten through gaitors?

tigers can get through cowhide and roo hide so i doubt material could stop a hard bite.... but it would give you a chance...
