I took thousands of Kodachrome slides during my formative years in Australia before leaving in 1975. Back then I was mostly interested in rock climbing around Brisbane but the Bungles were a mystical destination drawing the fledgling Brisbane Rockclimbing Club south every Easter.
Of course this National Heritage area has been photographed innumerable times, but perhaps the personal images linked below capture the essence of an earlier time when bush walking was a simple affair. We often had a unique perspective as climbers on the peaks and were privileged to witness their continuously changing personalities throughout the day.
Here then is the link to an album with images from various climbing and hiking expeditions from 1966 to 1998:

Thanks for posting, it has confirmed my view that next time I go to the Warrumbungles I will have to camp near the high tops or walk up early in the morning.
The other galleries are also worth looking at.

Awesome stuff. This really inspires a trip to the 'bungles...
Also great to see you return decades later with your son.
