Bushwalkers Found Safe & Well in Snowy Mountains

Postby Overlandman » Thu 08 Nov, 2012 4:39 pm

From ABC News
Two bushwalkers missing in the New South Wales Snowy Mountains have been found.

Emergency Service have spent much of the day trekking through rough terrain to find the 52-year-old woman and her 25-year-old son, who were lost near Charlottes Pass.

The two bushwalkers were hiking in the Perisher Valley near Mount Kosciuszko when they became stranded overnight.

Police say the woman and her son contacted emergency services using a mobile phone.

The last contact police had with the pair was at 2:00am Thursday AEDT.

Inspector Chris Varley from Queanbeyan Police says a helicopter will now be used to bring the pair to safety.

"They'll certainly be winched out of the bush," he said.

"I'd like to think that perhaps at some stage the ground crews might be afforded the same luxury, considering they've been battling their way through the scrub for several hours.

Inspector Varley says the pair have been found safe and well.

"At this stage we assume that the everything's OK," he said.

"We're still yet to know exactly their medical condition but I'm sure if they had been not so healthy we would've known about it."

An ambulance spokeswoman says they are not injured but feeling the effects of the cold.

The bushwalkers will be taken to hospital for a check-up.

Earlier a helicopter sent to the area to pick up the walkers had been called off due to poor weather.

Which is miles from Perisher Valley, so I hope some one really knows where they are.

All good they were found yesterday, no action in the Perisher Valley just a dodgy news report.
