With temps a little cooler this morning I thought I'd get out before work. I parked at the end of Warrimoo Rd in St Ives and jogged down the Warrimoo Track. Instead of continuing down to Cowan Ck and Bobbin Hd for something different I turned right where the power lines come in. I followed the access road to the pylon and scouted around for a track down to the creek. A feint pad was located and followed down through the rocks to Christies Pool at the junction of Ku-ring-gai and Keirans Creeks. This is a pleasant spot. The water looked quite clear and good.
I crossed Ku-ring-gai Ck above the pool and made my way up the point. There were even a few permolat markers near the bottom. This leads to an old formed track which brings you out at the pylon at the end of Rylands track in Terry Hills. This I followed back past its junction with Cooyong Track but I turned off to the right before reaching Mona Vale Rd. This side track led to two more pylons but on closer inspection a foot track led off which I followed.
This led behind the gun club and before long became a 4WD track which led around to the back of St Ives Showground. I continued to follow it and came to the high fence that Oxfam runners would be familiar with at the boundary of the Ku-ring-gai Wildflower Garden. Someone had placed a log either side so I was able to scurry over. Before long I was on the sealed bike track which I followed down to the point and then back up before taking the 4WD track off to the right.
This leads back down into Ku-ring-gai Ck which has a nice deep pool just below the crossing. Then up steeply on the otherside on some newly laid concrete before emerging at the gate at the end of Phillip St in St Ives. Here there is a Harbour to Hawkesbury sign. It is then only 5 mins up to Warrimoo Rd and the car.
A good little round trip of a couple of hours that, considering how close it is to suburbia, has quite a remote feel to it. I saw and heard a number of wallabies scurrying about.
