New BoM sites

Postby tom_brennan » Thu 04 Dec, 2014 2:58 pm

Bureau of Meteorology has included a large number of new localities on the 7-day forecast map. There were a few interesting new entries, including Jenolan Caves and Charlotte Pass.

The most interesting ones though were Mt Ginini, and Monolith Valley!

Does that imply there is a monitoring station at these spots?

I doubt it. They're probably just sampling a different site of the Australian forecast ensemble.

You can look at any site you with with the new meteye tool - no need for a named locality. http://www.bom.gov.au/australia/meteye/
Men wanted for hazardous journey. Low wages, bitter cold, long hours of complete darkness. Safe return doubtful.

They have always had a monitoring station at Mt Ginini. It is good to check for current conditions in the ACT high country.
http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDN60801 ... 5925.shtml for hourly observations.

Good to know that they have a forecast also.

You find it's actually an aircraft weather station from memory. But either way it's been up there for a long time :)

I'll have to check but I'm pretty sure these sites have always been offered, not as a free product though, but under the paid subscription service.

I have a feeling they're not BOM owned equipment. Springwood AWS is owned by BMCC, unless BOM have installed something new?
