Bushwalking clubs Sydney area

Postby Juudbruinsma » Thu 04 Dec, 2014 8:36 pm

Hi all,

I'd love to join a bushwalking club to explore new tracks and meeting new people in the process. I'm pretty shy, so I'm looking for a friendly, welcoming and relaxed club. I live in Sydney.

Any suggestions?

Cheers!

Probably need more details before anyone would suggest specific clubs.

Where in Sydney do you live? Walk weekend or mid week? Is the age of people who you walk with a factor? Mountain or coastal walks preference? Day or overnight walks? Does "explore new tracks" mean you wish to not walk off track?

You could contact Bushwalking NSW http://www.bushwalkingnsw.org.au/ as they are the parent body for all the clubs, but they will (or should!) ask you similar questions.

so many variables!

I am in my early thirties, so a group with members around that age would be nice.

I live near Lidcombe, but happy to travel. Would rather join a club that is a good fit in terms of feeling comfortable than one that is close by.

I work full time, so weekend walks would be my preference.

I'd like to learn some new skills as well - e.g. I'm new to overnight hiking (only done once), so would be keen to ease into that a bit more. Otherwise, just day walks would be fine. I guess I'm not a hard core bushwalker, and the social aspect would be important to me. Basically looking for a safe and encouraging environment to get into bushwalking a bit more.

I love the mountains, but haven't done many coastal walks yet - happy to try those though.

Hope this helps!

Thanks Melinda! Had a look at their site and this one seems to tick a lot of boxes for me - will check them out.
