Washpool Wilderness

Postby cough » Mon 24 Mar, 2025 12:49 pm

Probably won't get any replies, but does anyone have any advice as to the best current route to access the camping area at Pi Pi Flats on Washpool Creek in Washpool National Park? Or any recent trip reports? It used to be fairly well-frequented in the 80s and early 90s, but ever since Washpool was declared a wilderness area and all fire trails and forestry roads closed off, it seems near impossible to access these days. The Coombadjha rest area no longer exists and most of the southern perimeter of Washpool was severely burnt in the 2019 bushfires (I tried to access this route a few years ago but the bush was near impenetrable).

I've seen the blog from awildland of a trip undertaken in 2012: https://awildland.blogspot.com/2019/10/ ... rness.html.
And an old report from SUBW: https://history.sbw.org.au/wiki/199305

I have a spur marked out on my gps which i haven't explored yet, to the west of Pi Pi falls...so of no use to you whatsoever.

But a least you got a reply until someone pipes in with some fresh info.
Mountain views are good for my soul...& getting to them is good for my waistline !
