Bondi to Parramatta?
Not much of the 370km (or so) Fume and Hobble is in NP.
Ask John Muir - walked most of the way from the head of the GAB to Burketown on the Gulf with a mutt.
Liked what I saw cycling the decent length between Burke to Cunnamulla. I am certain your dog would like to walk that distance. Not.
Why are people tied so much to their pet? - "Look, here's Fluffy making new friends at Port Douglas... and here she is meeting the indigenous kids at Hall's Creek - they loved her! We're so glad we took her on our circumnavigation."
They just need a walk twice a day along your street to the park, sniffing at every third tree to be content in their world. Having a dog along on any trip is about satisfying your own ego.

Wow, I was hoping for constructive responses, clearly we don't have the same train of thought Wollemi. And thank god for that because the idea that I be as miserable and soul destroyingly boring as you appear to be would make me want to run into traffic.
I sure hope you find some better way to pass your time at night than putting pathetic comments onto people's posts. I'm going out to dinner now, I assume you won't be because you don't seem to be the sort of person that can make friends.
Thanks for your ideas though.

lol, yeah there are "dog people" and there are sad cases that just don't get it. The 5 dogs I've had in my life are by far the 5 best friends I've ever had.
Can't help re NSW though, sorry

Lol thanks stepbystep! Nice to see there are people on here that do get it. I'll get your advice when I head to Tassie for a stroll

Now, now, people, be nice.
I can kind of see wollemi's point, but. The only reason I don't have a dog at present is because my lifestyle just wouldn't be fair to the thing. I'm away too much and spend too much time in places where dogs can't (and shouldn't) go.
And taking a dog on another long trip would be grouse, but it'd interfere too much with the walking. And while the people here would be glad to dogsit while I'm away, it'd stuff up the beast's training. Had that problem with the last one.
Been there, done that. The next dog will have to wait until I'm back in Tassie.
How long a walk did you want? Most State Forests will allow dogs.

Personally I take my dog on nearly every walk I go on with exceptions when I'm teaming up with others as I realize not everybody enjoys the company of our K9 friends. My dog (as with the ones that went before her) is owned specifically for bushwalking and is trained accordingly, ie: Has excellent recall, doesnt chase wild life, doesn't barge ahead of me and knock me off cliffs, will lead a walk through ankle high bracken fern on snake patrol, will sic one of the often encountered stubborn ferals that take ownership of certain tracks around here...and basically just offer good company that wont argue the distance of the hike your on.
To answer your question BossJess depends where you are?
Wollemi, don't get a dog you don't know enough about their requirments.

So... we have a love/hate relationship ?
Defamation - also called slander (for transitory statements), and libel (for written, or otherwise published words) - is the communication of a statement that makes a claim, expressly stated or implied to be factual, that may give an individual or group, a negative or inferior image.
This can be also any disparaging statement made by one person about another, which is communicated or published. In Common Law it is usually a requirement that this claim be false and that the publication is communicated to someone other than the person defamed. From Wikipedia.
Boring? - have a look at my profile.

Guess the parliament of Tasmania, as voted for and persuaded by the good citizens, 'just don't get it', hey stepbystep?
http://www.dpac.tas.gov.au/divisions/lg ... rol_issuesDo you envisage that the causation of these punishable offences in this lengthy plain-English list were imagined or merely one-offs?

Dearest stepbystepbystepbystep,
when someone backs up a defence with evidence, let's shout 'em down with a biased opinion, right?
To the OP, take some ideas on where to walk with your dog, at least in the Sydney region from here;

Could be some option on the GNW up in some of the Watagans. Fair bit of that is in SF.

Good work. Another positive response right there and you have truly added to the topic and assisted the OP greatly.
Last I looked I take my dogs on walks because "They love it" Not because "I Love it".
I don't do overnight walks with my dogs but they love a wander in new bush for a few hours chance permitting, Just depends on where your going.
I guess this issue is and always has been there are great and bad dogs owners..... same goes for humans I guess.

Hi guys,
Thanks for your responses! (Most of them
) I'm in Sydney, so any more suggestions in that area would be greatly appreciated.
Generally I rely on Parramatta Lake, the fire trails out at Kenthurst etc
Thanks again!
Jess

Hey Jess
Have you tried Narragingy Reserve at Blacktown? Not a long bushwalk with your pups but you can get a good 2 hour circuit in by following the outer firetrails. Pleasant enough bushland. You can also combine it with some of the Western Sydney parkland bike trails but your pup would need to be on a leash.
Also Cumberland State Forest at West Pennant Hills allows pups but again not a long walk (perhaps 1.5 hrs from the top to the bottom and return) and I think in parts they have to be leashed.

Just seeing this thread now. There are a couple of walks up in the Mountains that you can take dogs on. Put a call into the Department of Lands as the walks on those properties are usually dog friendly.
I'll look up the one I did in January.
Re Wollemi, I think a moderator needs to delete his posts. They are unconstructive and offensive. I am particularly appalled to see that he put you down in a misogynist way by calling you "hon". Disgusting behaviour. I really hope I don't cross paths with him in the Mountains.

The more I see of people like Wollemi the more I like dogs.
That aside, you are allowed to have dogs in almost all areas of NSW State Forests. The NSW State Forests Information Centre have maps showing all State Forest areas in NSW, get a map, plan a walk!. The maps cost about 10 bucks and are excellent. I do a bit of walking and packrafting with my dog in the state forests on the far south coast, lots of fun.

Couldn't agree more. I know this topic is now locked so input is no longer possible, but it was locked because people can't seem to be nice. Gives me the jimmy brits sometimes, We're all different, but it seems some of us need to learn tolerance, or at least acceptance that people like to do different things.
On topic, there are a number of topics on this forum discussing walking with dogs...
Bushwalking with dogsGood places to take your dogs on a walkDog walkingwalking with dogs - and how do you find out about them?Plenty of other topics.
And there is a lot of info available if you look hard enough.
Take for example, something from Tasmania -
http://www.parks.tas.gov.au/index.aspx?base=1374Dogs are welcome if kept on a leash. Bicycles are permitted and this track is well-suited for mountain bikes.
As this topic is in the NSW / ACT forum, you might find this link useful -
