Tent or Hammock for Mt Solitary Circuit ??

Lame question I know but what will serve me best in the Blue Mountains. (I'm thinking hammock)

Just planning to do this loop as I have a window to be down there and have a free night :D .

I sleep very well in my hammock but also don't have any sleeping issues in my hexamid either. (XS Downmat UL works wonders)
I've seen a lot of hammock campers thrive in the Blue Mt's but there's some nice looking flat campsites for a tent too.

My call would be Hammock, there are lots of good hanging spots ontop of Solitary. If not camping on top of solitary it is a little bit more work to find spots not below widow makers, but still easy enough.

Happy hanging

Matt :)

Not sure how you're planning to do the loop, but there's good hanging spots on Solitary at the top of the Koorawall, at Chinaman's Gully, and at Singajingawell. I haven't been up there for a few months but I'd suspect that there's no water anywhere on Solitary by now. Another option is to to the extra bit down to Kedumba Crossing where's there good hanging (or camping) spots, and you can get water from Waterfall Creek. Otherwise the water in Jamison Valley runs down from the developed areas and is meant to be pretty contaminated.

Hammock it shall be then. It's nice to have options and I like the idea of hanging near a cliff with a view on Mt Solitary.

I've been given a canoying voucher, Just have to find out what that entals and some times. Probably do that for the day and then set off for a nights camping, wander back to the car the next day then drive home.

Thanks for the tip on water Marwood.

There's a couple of trees a few meters back from the edge of the cliff at Singajingawell that I thought looked good for a cliff-top hang last time I was up there. I was tenting on that trip to try out the Exped mat so I didn't try the hanging spot. From memory one of those trees was covered in sticky sap so a bit of rag or newspaper for under the tree straps could be an idea.

Now I come to think of it, on that camp at Singajingawell I was kept awake half the night by a barking owl then woken way before sparrowfart by competing lyrebirds down in the valley, so if you camp there I hope you get a quieter night than I did. :D :D
