Hey,
On a recent Mittagong to Katoomba walk, our route took us down the Inglis Selection Track to the Kowmung, with the intentions of visiting the Church Creek Caves on the way.
Having not visited the area before, I was surprised to find that the track which was even marked on the topo maps was very overgrown or non-existent once we left Mt Kowmung. Maybe we took a wrong turn or just had some bad luck but does anyone know what the state of the track is?
Also has anyone visited the caves before? We spent a good 40 mins or so looking for them with no luck. Are they easy to find and are they worth having a look at?
Regards,

Yes the old track is quite overgrown and difficult to follow. The caves are certainly worth a visit. Very good formations and excellent colours. The main entrance is not obvious and is about the size of a wombat hole. It is not near the main out crop but further up. the trick is to head up to your right when you hit a very large rock the size of as house in the creek bed.
No sign of the old hut down there any more either.

I thought that was the case with the track. I'm quite annoyed we missed the caves, the creek was very overgrown and full of very prickly head high bushes, which coupled with the heat at the time and our low levels of water, meant the we could only tolerate searching for so long.
Sounds like I'll have to go back there, maybe via Mt Armour though.

Yes the road out to Mt Armour is clear it ends in the saddle just before the top. Not too difficult to make your way down to the cleared country from there.

We recently spent a few days on the Kowmung at Church Creek (via Mt Armour) with intentions of finding the caves. We spent a morning hunting through dense prickly bushes but were unsuccessful even though equipped with GPS coordinates and other people's trip notes - disappointing (although it was lovely just being down there). We didnt locate the end of the Inglis Selection Track either - just assumed it must be clearer coming in from the other end but sounds like this isnt so. Good excuse for a second visit!

Interesting to hear that others have also had trouble finding them, they must be tucked away!
As for the Selection Track, it become virtually non-existent as is approaches the creek. I believe that is where most people would just make there own way down from there depending on where they want to end up and how steeply they are willing to descend.
