Hey, I'm doing the k to k on the Easter long weekend I am just wondering are the campsites usually windy?

That depends on where you intend to camp and what the weather is like while on your walk.

Where do you intend to camp?
I wouldn't think that Dex Creek, Konangaroo or Mobbs (the usual camp sites) would present any problems, even with a bit of wind around.
All those campsites are perfectly fine.
At Dex you don't have to camp at the main site, you can head up into the trees, there's more wood there anyway if you want a fire.

For Kanangra to Katoomba there are no "usual" campsites.

Where you camp depends on your route.

Common routes -

Kanangra - Gingra Ridge - Kowmung River - White Dog - Medlow Gap - Narrow Neck - Katoomba

Kanangra - Mt Cloudmaker - Ti Willa - Kowmung River - White Dog - Medlow Gap - Narrow Neck - Katoomba

Kanangra - Mt Cloudmaker - Strongleg - Kanongaroo - Yellow Pup -Mobbs Soak - Medlow Gap - Narrow Neck - Katoomba

Kanangra - Mt Cloudmaker - Nurla Morella - Coxs River - Howling Dog - Splendour Rock - Yellow Pup - Mobbs Soak - Medlow Gap - Narrow Neck - Katoomba

Kanangra - Mt Thurat - Mt Paralyser - Kanangra Ck - Kanongaroo - Yellow Pup -Mobbs Soak - Medlow Gap - Narrow Neck - Katoomba

Kanangra - Crafts Walls - Kanangra Ck - Kanongaroo - Yellow Pup - Mobbs Soak - Medlow Gap - Narrow Neck - Katoomba

plus longer routes via the Blue Breaks - that would be fine for an Easter Walk

Sorry Dave, beg to differ with you.
For a punter taking a crack at the more common K to K route, Walls-Dex-Coxs-Mobbs-Medlow Gap-Narrow Neck-Katoomba, the camp sites I outlined would be considered 'normal' or úsual'.
For people more familiar with the area the options you mentioned are definitely in the mix.

Kinda agree with Roysta. For us off-track or more experienced folk here, we need to remember what it feels like to be heading out into spots like Kanangra for the first time, based only on track notes and forums like this.

So to Bushwalkerno1tube, yes there is a "classic" route when undertaking the K2K. It involves camping at Dexs Creek (which is a fairly protected saddle, a depression around a swamp/creek. Wind should not be a problem here, but campsites are limited, so don't be late. Roysta is right, you can find spots in the trees if needed. The tricky navigation starts when you leave Dex's on the 2nd day, so brush up on your compass and map to ground reading skills.

For the "traditional" 2nd night Either Kanangaroo or Mobbs Swamp (depending how fast you're travelling), again wind shouldn't be a problem. Kanangaroo is (like a bowl) in the valley near the river, low with high rises around it, however Mobbs Swamp is probably the most likely to feel any wind. Yes, it's also a kind of "bowl" but is higher up the valley. However, if you look around, you'll find spots that are fine in the wind, ie: not under any dodgy looking tree branches.

Oh... Just another thought. If it is a particularly windy day, you'll probably feel it between the Kanangra Carpark and Mt Cloudmaker.

That route is perhaps the most common route - but it is certainly not the only route people go. The original poster (BushwalkerNo1..) did not specify his or her route. As they intend to walk during Easter -a four day break for most people - then they may be (and should be) considering a longer alternative.

The Cloudmaker route is normally a 2 day walk from Kanangra to Katoomba - (graded "medium") - and then the usual campsite would be Kanongaroo on the Coxs River - which is very sheltered. Doing the walk over 4 days - then a lot of alternatives are possible - eg walking from Kanongaroo to Breakfast Creek, or going via Ti Willa, the Kowmung and the Low Gangerangs, or via Splendour Rock (which can be a windy campsite). Perhaps the best route would be Katoomba to Kanangra and back to Katoomba - going one way via Cloudmaker and the other way via Paralyser - a good use of the 4 available days. Or perhaps they want to spend a day chilling out at Kanongaroo?

I went out as far as Cottage Rock last saturday. I had previously been out over Cambage Spire about 6 months ago, and remember there were some big trees on the track then, but they had been cleared (chopped with a chainsaw) on Saturday.

Yep. Did the full length over Easter. As expected clear to Second Top, watch out for the easterly turn at the top as there are wombat tracks (or bodgey bushwalker tracks) that continue north just to fool you...

It's pretty good throughout - still as elastic as ever just going on and on and on...

Beautiful meadow like moments in the last couple of kms before Gingra Creek. Worth the slog.

I walked the gingra trail a few weeks back also. I was a little apprehensive at first as this was my first experdition into the Blue mountains and it was a solo one at that. As it turns out my concern was for nothing, compared to the stuff i bash about in around here walking that track was equivelant to hiking down the middle of the F6.

As lotsa said be mindfull of the sharp Easterly turn as I'm one of those day dreamers who contributed to keeping the false lead in better condition than the intended track haha.

Side note, don't be put off by the yellow coloured, mozzie larva infested water catching in the plastic drum in coal seam cave. I boiled up 2ltrs for the trip and I swear it was nicer tasting than any water I've had out of the purest mountain stream.
