Volunteers wanted: bush regeneration at West Head
Posted: Wed 10 Jul, 2013 7:43 amG'day folks, I'm just sharing this request that came in to my bushwalking club. It may well be of interest to walkers in Sydney's north, and in particular to those with a keen interest in history.
On September 7 this year, Bushcare and NPWS are running a bush regeneration day at the West Head forts as part of Bushcare’s Major Day Out. It will involve a short bushwalk and a bit of a rock scramble to get to the forts where they will be doing a couple of hours work removing weeds. This site isn’t usually open to the public, so it's a great opportunity to have a look at the WW2 forts and do some conservation. Apparently this site is also special because of its endangered ecological communities. Unfortunately Lantana, Mother of Millions and other weeds are threatening to take over the area.
Gloves, tools and morning tea will be provided for the day. When you RSVP we will organise free park entry for the day. Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy a relaxing lunch overlooking Pittwater after a morning of bush regeneration.
