cowan-brooklyn walk

Postby roopass » Wed 07 Aug, 2013 10:31 am

I'm planning to the cowan- brooklyn walk soon, I've heard when you get to Brooklyn dam, you can walk around the dam and somewhere, there is a tunnel with remnants of the old railway tracks , does anyone know if this info is correct and if it is, could someone give me more of an accurate location of where this tunnel might be?, thanks.
Joe.

It may be an idea be a bit discreet if you explore the tunnel. It's within the rail corridor and is still used on occasion to store vehicles and track work equipment. Workmen are often there.

i remember a shortcut on the GNW near Brooklyn Dam. On my artwork below, travelling south from Brooklyn to Cowan, the red dots show the route of the GNW (when i went thru there 2 years ago). The yellow dots show the shortcut. Travelling from "A" to "B" it is a steep ascent and VERY rocky. When you arrive at the dam, go into the campground, veer to the right and you will see a feint track on the northern side. Overall, the shortcut saves you about 1.5 klms :D

(sorry, my IMGs keep getting chopped off on the right side :x lol)

Rest and be patient and adopt any other recommended treatments by your doctor. As for all soft tissue injuries, it's better to treat it well first time and not let it turn chronic by taking short cuts. Delay the walk by 6 weeks won't have lasting effects but a chronic plantar fasciitis will stay with you for life. Good luck and heal well!
Just move it!

thanks Rob for short cut tip and pic, I used it the other day and it takes u right to the dam, great, also a tip u might not know, is when u complete short cut and yr back on main trail, just a couple of metres to yr right is a safe spring for drinking, a scout leader I met at the campsite told me about it.
