hi guys sorry if im breaking any rules or posting unnecessary topic. im 15 and me and my mate want to go on a hiking camping type weekend or maybe longer ive been camping a fair bit but never hiking i was wondering if anyone could recommend some tracks or any equipment that you would need special for hiking. i know very bassic navigating stuff. i was thinking like small tent or swag with bassic gear like rope, tent pegs,hexamine stove if we cant get a fire going haha, compass food, clothes, knives, mess cup etc. and if theres any places were you can hunt small game (thinking about getting my bow game license) but thats not even close to a priority. id love to do things like pack rafting because I've dove kayak rapids before but unfortunately that not cheap so if anyone has any input there even if there gentle flowing rivers with no rapids that would be great. once again sorry being for being a total noob and the lack of better words, thanks.

Of course you don't need everything but the very basics can probably summed up as:

Pack
Boots
Shelter
Sleeping bag
Sleeping mat
Wet weather gear
Stove + fuel
First aid kit
Head torch
Map
Compass
Whistle

For the area id recommend pindar caves as a good first trip (catch train to wondabyne, check out wildwalks.com.au for detailed notes) or camp at mt wondabyne maybe from patonga to wondabyne or via woy woy. Both easy enough amd not too far, as well as being interesting places

thanks for the help guys i was thinking of doing the six foot track up blue mountains because of it being more camping and more of a challenge. also thinking about getting this bag:http://www.caribee.com.au/category.php?cat=5#!cadet-65/c23k they have it at my local bcf so i can try it on seems durable and plenty of space and convenient places for sleep bag mat etc and a single portable butane gas can cooker unless anyone else can recommend something smaller/better for not to much more?

I don't know the price of that pack but I will say you are far better off spending a bit more to know you've got good quality gear. Don't forget your pack is what carries all the rest of your gear - if it fails then you're in a fair bit of strife.

What is your price range?

its 80-100 dollars dont really know a price range because mum and dad said they would help get gear coz we have heaps of camping gear already but probally not over $100 unless its a standout bag
