I went for a walk this morning from Mt Kuring gai down to the GNW at Calna Ck then up to Berowra down to Waratah Bay along Cowan Ck and back up to Mt Kuring gai. ( A good circuit by the way.) Alomg the way I saw 4 goannas all on the Cowan Ck side. They all scarpered up trees as I approached. None were really large but all out and about.

I seen a fairly hefty one myself on Friday, he tree'd himself immediately.

Also seen a thick Black snake, not real long but solid with a BIG head. Their head usually tapers to a bullet like point but this dude had a head like J Leno, he walked the track with me for a while as the bank was steep and he couldn't find an exit, for a moment I thought I'd adopted him for good...

I had a similar experience only with a lyre bird. A far more pleasant track companion.

Ran the sphinx loop at bobin head last Wednesday. Must have startled 5 goannas up trees. Not sure who gets the bigger fright when I come bashing down the trail at 11km/h, me or them. At least they can run up a tree. Not looking forward to bumping the non legged version when they get about soon.
