Porucpine Track

Postby zac150 » Mon 04 Nov, 2013 12:15 pm

My wife has agreed to join me on a Christmas / new years walk, this is a big step forward as she has been unable to join me walking for a few years due to a back injury (car accident), well that and kids.

Anyway our plan is to walk from Perisher to Charlotte's Pass, Charlottes to Thredbo (via still well and the tops), Thredbo back to Charlottes via the lakes walk and then back to Perisher. The idea is that we will walk between chalets, no need for tents etc so her pack will be a little lighter.

Anyway I am trying to make sure that we don't back track and was looking at the ski maps. Apparently we can walk from Perisher to Charlotte's via porcupine rocks I know it is a winter track but I am trying to find out of their is a summer track their as well. Has anyone covered this area in summer?

I haven't walked Perisher to Porcupine rocks but here is some info about the track

We can learn a lot from crayons. They come in different shapes and colours, but they all have to live in the same box

The winter track is quite boggy and not really recommended from the porcupine to CP although I have heard of people doing it.

Perisher to Porcupine rocks is a beautiful walk.

Thanks for the responses,

Onestepmore, I found that reference as well, it covers the section from Perisher to Charlottes, but not Charlottes onto Perisher which is my area of concern.

Pin pow pow, the boggy part is what I am worried about. I assume (based on the maps) that ski poles mark the winter track to Charlotte's pass, from the map they cross the plain at spencers creek and I assume this is the boggy section, this is I guess what I am trying to avoid if it represent km's of walking through bog.

I am hoping that there is either a track that follows the ski poles that may shorten the trip across the bog area or alternatively I may be able to cut across to the road at some point.

There is a bit of a track that follows the ski poles but it goes right through the bog Betts Creek and Johnnies Plain. I know it is walked quite regularly so I can’t imagine it is to much of an issue? You could walk along the road but that isn’t much fun.
