A night in the Royal.

My wife had a group of women over for a meeting at our place so I was given a leave pass to spend a night in the bush. I managed to get away from work at 5:00PM and headed south to the Royal NP. I was fortunate to beat most of the traffic and pulled into the Marley CP just after 6:00PM. Wednesday was a beautiful evening. The setting sun bathed the coast in a golden glow. It was just on sunset when I arrived at the Coast track and made my way the short distance around to Little Marley. I set up in the trees behind the dunes and then made my way down to the beach for a swim. Very refreshing. (How many major citiies in the world can you be at your desk in the CBD and then at a spot like this within a couple of hours?) A very pleasant evening was spent enjoying the sights and sounds of the bush before I fell asleep to the sounds of the pounding waves.

Next morning i was away early heading south on the Coast track to Wattamolla. No one was about when I went through. At Curracurrong I turned off onto the Curra Moors track which I followed out to the road. There i turned right and then left onto Wises Track. This passed through the occasional patch of nice forest before bringing me back out on the road. Here I turned left along the road to Warumbul Rd where I turned right then right again onto the winifred Falls Track. This I followed past the falls to the Mt Bass trail which I followed back out to Bundeena Rd. Here I turned right and then left onto little Marley trail which I followed back down to the beach where i retrieved my pack. I then walked back out via the Deer Pool to the car which i reached at 11:30. I was back at the desk by 12:30.

A good quick little getaway.

Nice sounding trip K.

That's a lot of distance to cover in a morning, what time did you get up?

Did you find the drop toilet in the scrub behind Little Marley. Not many people know it is there.

I like the way you snuck all that in, in less than 18 hours. I bet you feel as refreshed as if you'd driven for hours, walked for miles and spent a couple of days out. Great stuff

No I didn't find the toilet! Had no idea there was one there? Is it still there?

I set off at 5:30, before the sun was up. My favourite time of day.

Yes I find that even a short trip like that can keep me going for quite a while.

The big question is how could you be bothered going into work at 12.30!....You professionals and with you unwilting work ethics making us creatures of liesures look like natures bludgers, I don't know...

I've never used it myself, so I am not sure of its exact position.

Years ago as we were walking north along the coast track one of our party asked if we could have a comfort break when we got to Marley. She knew of the toilet and let everyone know it was just off in the scrub behind Little Marley (a number of the ladies in our group were quite relieved to find an alternative to the bush loo). Even the old hands in our group (many with years of experience walking the RNP) had no idea it was here.

It's been a few years since my last trip to Marley so I can't vouch for the currency of this information but I would assume it is still there. I will have to make the effort to see if I can locate it next time I am at Marley.

Cheers,
Michael.

Nice pointer. It's even visible on Google Satellite view, in the middle of clearing.
