Hi,
Any advice on how to get to this track in the Ben Boyd NP? I want to do this one with a friend and we can drive in to the end of the track. But then we need transportation to the start of the track. Did anybody found a solution for this in the past. Or anybody keen to drive us? I'm thinking to do this one around Christmas time.
Many thanks,
Eline

Hi Eline,
You may want to think about doing a water drop somewhere along the way. You probably wont get a campsite at Saltwater as it will be packed that time of year. I would drive in there and stash some water just south of Saltwater as there are plenty of nice out of the way spots either side. It is likely that you wont get any water otherwise on the way. This is assuming you are going to overnight the walk. Saltwater is 14km from Boyds Tower. There are some really great spots between Boyds Tower and Saltwater.

Transport is a definite problem unless you are keen to go down and back

Hi Elinekl,

I did the Light to light last Xmas with my wife. We used Eden taxis, dropping my car at Green Cape and having the taxi drive us up to Boyd's Tower. The fare wasn't cheap, from memory about $180.

We did the walk over two easy days, with a camp at Hegartys Bay. I'd be reasonably comfortable with the tanks at Saltwater camp and Bittangabee Bay having water, but check with the ranger first. Last Xmas there was also good water at Hegartys Bay and Bittangabee Creek (infact I was able to have a swim there). I treated the water from the tanks with no ill effects.

I posted a trip report here http://hiking.topicwise.com/doc/LighttoLightWalk with plenty of photos.

Its a nice easy walk with beautiful beaches and coastal scenery, unfortunately for us we got very overcast conditions so my photos weren't great.

Cheers

Bittangabee and Saltwater camping areas will be chockers at that time if the year. Agree with Kevin the creek is good to swim in. Go prawning at night in the estuary.
Great stretches of beaches.
This was our pilgrimage each Xmas for a few years when we were in high school in the early 80's. The loos are probably better now!

We did the walk in March. We had two cars. We met people who walked down and back. It is an easy walk well marked. The coast is lovely. Fantastic geology. It will be crowded over xmas. So you should be able to link up with other walkers and hitch a ride. Bittangabee is a fishing haven, full of anglers, so drive to Bittangabee and take a slab as payment for a lift to Ben Boyd tower. Leave your car at Bittangabee. The last bit of the walk to the lighthouse is an easy 5km walk and probably the least interesting section of the walk.

I was down at saltwater campground a few weeks ago and a family doing the walk said they asked the lighthouse keeper and he arranged to drop off
Maybe worthwhile calling to find out
