So how was it?

I'm hoping to get up there during the week. Where did you camp? What were conditions like - snow etc?

How was the Snowy River crossing - water height wise? Ive never done the Main Range but understand that the river can be unpassable due to snow melt.

Thanks,
Paul

Hi Paul

It was a fantastic trip. When i left early on Saturday heading out of CP towards Blue Lake the snowy river was easy to pass. A few of the rocks there were a couple of CM's under water but no problems at all. The track heading up the hill towards Carruthers Peak was barely visable under all the snow. However when i came back around from Mt Kosciusko i noticed all the snow had melted on that side.

The main snow drifts were along the back of the main trail before i headed off to Mt Townsend in some places waist deep (something i didnt expect). I camped the night over the back of Mount Townsend in the most spectacular spot. There was plenty of snow around for a good water supply up the top of the mountain. There was considerable amounts of snow heading off the main track towards M Townsend. I would guess a fair chunk would be gone by now. For once i was very thankful i bought my poles!

On the way back i was involved in a rescue so didnt get as much chance to enjoy the back end trail that had no snow on it. (from Mt K to CP). I had to carry a poor girls backpack and my own equipment , Just when mine was getting light !

When i was heading out i noted ppl were still crossing the Snowy RIver up towards Blue lake and dont think it would get much higher.

Enjoy
