Does this spot have a name?

I am thinking of buying a mountain bike and trailer so I can go biking/camping overnight in the Blue Mountains in more remote places and take all my camera gear as well as food etc. Saw this clearing off The Oaks Fire Trail east of Woodford. Wonder if it has a name or if anyone's been to it?
It appears to have some form of structure when I view it on Google maps and also the trail appears to lead right into it.

Yes, it is named. That is Saint Helena Crater. It's marked on the topo map. It was an extremely popular spot with early bushwalkers, back when the Blue Labyrinth was a real centre for walkers due to the train line. You can read more about it here: http://miller.emu.id.au/pmiller/st_helena/article.html
If I were you I'd trawl the topo maps, rather than google maps, as you'll get names like this show up. There's plenty of remote places in the mountains to go to. Certainly much more remote than this one!

Thank you.
I am a persistent SOB and kept digging and found out later this morning about the place. SOunds like it's still overrun with weeds and crap.
I have topo maps so will definitely look at those.

Thanks agaiN!

Ninox,

Try the SIX maps from NSW LPI: http://maps.six.nsw.gov.au/. Much better than Google.

Cheers,
Michael.

Edit: Almost forgot about the Fat Hippy website: http://users.on.net/~fathers/sthelena.htm
