Hey Guys

Im going to do an easy three day walk along the L2L track next weekend from Friday to Sunday. Its the first time ive done the track and wanted to take some time do a little fishing and relaxing along the way thus the extra day.

Im thinking of following the http://www.wildwalks.com/bushwalking-and-hiking-in-nsw/ben-boyd-national-park/light-to-light-walk-3-day.html three day schedule. A couple of questions

I hear its bring your own water? Is there any creeks along the way? Or is it best to do a supply drop outside of saltwater creek and maybe another near Bittangabee ? I know you can drive to Saltwater but how about Bittangabee?

Do you think it will be a problem finding camping spots this time of the year im guessing we are out of peak season (Christy holidays).

Any must see's along the way?

Im bringing my new GF along for her first multiday walk so want it to be special and im prepared to take the extra weight for Friday nights valentines day. Is that not the greatest sign of love...LOL

Any advice you have would be great

Hi there. We camped there a fair bit, but decades ago. You can definitely drive into both Bittabgabee and Saltwater Creek. As it's been so dry I would not count on the water tanks being useable, also I have had bad experiences relying on what the websites for NPWS campsite facilities say! If you can, I'd do water drops as you suggest, if you're doing a car shuffle between Green Cape Light House and Boyd Tower.
The beaches are lovely. There is great prawn fishing in Saltwater Creek (underwater torch, marine battery in a backpack or towed behind you in a small esky on a boogie board, and a prawn net)

Does anyone have up to date local knowledge?

Most of the tourists have left now so camp sites should be ok, there are nice camp sites away from the main also (Hegartys bay which has water) I would check with Merimbula NP office re the water situation as the tanks get emptied over the Christmas break with the car campers at both main sites. There are a few creeks that you can get water from along the way (treat it though), it has been very dry for the last few weeks. Three days is a good amount of time, there are plenty of fishing options with some nice Kingfish and plenty of sambos off the rocks or flatties and bream off the beaches. The moon will be too full for prawning but bring a squid jig as they are plentiful atm (if you wanted to carry a snorkel& goggles there are abalone, cray and mussels)

L2L is a great walk you should have a good time. Depending on your or your new GF's desire to use toilets there are in fact a few nicer camp sites away from the masses and I also think these break the walk up a little better over 3 days.

I have done the walk twice and started from each end, I guess I preferred starting from the lighthouse as the walk was comfortable after doing the car shuffle etc. We walked into Hegarty's camp on the first night which is a great place to camp on a rocky beach, i'd imagine the fishing would be ok as well.

We then walked to Mowarry point on day 2, water here can be a little hit and miss so I would check with national parks first to make sure water will be an option. There is a great camp site on the northern end of the point follow the track off the grass area and start to head down a hill, a slightly hidden track (it was hard to spot last time I walked the track) heads off to the north. If you step over a creek and find yourself back on a main fire trail you have missed the track by 50m. The beach at the bottom of the track is an amazing place to camp great little beach, nice grassed area and water last time I was there was good.
