Who has been up. Mt Morgan on the wolgan river.

Which route did you use.

I assume you've taken a look at the aerial photos on the Lands Dept website? The cliffs look pretty formidable.

Never been up it. I've looked at it and wondered but never taken it further. I've also wondered about the track shown running south from Gospers Mt to near the valley escarpment. Often wondered if there was any surviving trace of that on the ground?

Tom, yes I have had a look that's why some photos from the wolgan river would be great. I have climbed down that way before. Trying to find a scramble up, part of a bigger trip.

I was on a great long weekend trip once - day 1 we walked down the Wolgan River to the junction with the Capertee, Day 2 - climbed up onto the Mt Morgan Plateau (easy scrambling) - then walked to Mt Morgan and camped a bit further along, then on day 3 - walked all the way to the Pipeline Track and then down to Newnes. This was a great trip - but long hours of walking and some scrub on the Plateau. I remember on day 1 leaving about 6 am from Newnes and having breakfast at the Rocky Ck junction etc.

We had great views from the Plateau at Mt Morgan - we walked to the cliff line.

If you just want to climb up - then you can climb onto the Plateau in a number of places - e.g. a creek north of Rocky Ck junction.

Easy pass up the crater to where the road ends - but due to bushfire regrowth - the road is very hard to follow now. Probably not worth trying to follow it.

There are some rock climbs up these cliffs near Mt Morgan - big multi pitch trad routes - adventure climbing. One of them is the longest climb in the Wolgan Valley.

I did a trip out that way years ago. we walked down the Wolgan from Newnes to the Capertee junction. Next day we walked down to the junction of Wollemi ck and return to our camp at the junction. I remember it rained the whole day and we walked most of the way in the bed of the river. then we walked out the Capertee Valley to Glen Davis then over Pipeline Pass back to Newnes.

I have climbed what is known as the Original Route on Masters Mountain about 10 years ago (probably the second and only other ascent unless Tom Williams has done it). But thats why I'm interested in a photo of the Mt Morgan face. To top it otherwise seems like you have to contrive a very round about trip.

I heard that Masters Mountain has recently fallen down (landslide?) - anyone know if this is true.

I checked on the climb further down - one of Tom William's recent routes - Morgan South West Face Direct, 10 Pitches, 330 metres, Grade 20. Tom said it is the "The tallest route in the Wolgan Valley, and the most remote."

Masters mountain falling down! Wow that would be something to see.
