Walks near Canberra

Postby Champion_Munch » Mon 26 May, 2014 8:44 pm

Hi all,

Considering a short trip to Canberra (or nearabouts) in July - keen to see snow but not looking to skii, just want to go play around in some off the side of the road or something. Are there some nice walks to do around this area that are do-able in Winter? We would probably get a hire car, but access that doesn't require a 4WD would be best! Any ideas would be great!

Cheers,
Munch

Get thee to Tharwa and go up Tennent, or into Bushfold and then up Booroomba Rocks. Vehicle access should be possible to the Orroral Valley, which is a pleasant place, though I've never seen snow there (never been there in the depths of winter, either).
A lot of the higher parts of Namadgi get good snow in winter, but access can be an issue. The Mt Franklin Rd, which access the Aggie, Frankling, Gingera area is, I think, closed by snow.
