Just spent three days on the Krungle Bungle Range, finding the plane wreck and exploring. Sadly we brought out a bag full of rubbish from a campfire on the side of Mt Guouogang: tuna tins, pair of men's undies (?!), gel wrappers and the ubiquitous foil, as well as cord which looked like it had been tied to a tarp then just cut in order to leave in a hurry after sleeping on a bed of bracken (still there). Also someone's put pink tape around the trees to mark the route from Ferny Flat - can't we enjoy finding our own way out here??

The plane wreck could be defined as rubbish and ought be removed, too?

Lucky the cord was cut. Packing the kayak on Moreton Island once, I walked into thin cord, tautly tied between shrubbery. Stripped the skin along the length of my nose :^(

I carried a ruined ~3kg double lilo from the Colo River a fortnight ago - but that may have been an accidental loss due to mis-adventure, rather than 'rubbish'. I wrapped a pair of men's dried and crusty undies inside (I think, or did we leave them there?!).

I believe that the tape was left by a group that also set out to find the plane wreck, as you can see them place ribbons in a video they made of the adventure. They also were seen to be smoking, so I wouldn't be surprised if the rubbish you found was associated with them. Very poor if this is the case that they left the rubbish!

Yeah, fair point, I shouldn't judge. Just really caught me by surprise, and I assumed that cigarette butts were something that people just would toss, however I guess there is no reason why they can't be carried out like any other rubbish.

What is the likelihood the group heading out to the plane crash saw it on this site?

Makes me a little cautious about posting info on those really special places on the internet.

Thanks for getting rid of the rubbish Bushgirl. Did you remove the flagging tape too?

Fortunately, it is pretty uncommon to see this sort of scrappy behaviour. If all the traces are removed, hopefully no one else will be inclined to do the same.

Yes, all tape removed, and campfire area restored to natural state. I wonder if the group is the same one that's chipped into a tree with an axe (or similar) on the ridge, to "mark the spot".

Thanks, Wollemi, enjoyed reading that, also looking forward to doing the walk right through to Green Gully - the car shuffle's always the problem!

In all honesty all smokers I've crossed out in the bush have crushed out their bumpers and pocketed them. I guess people who smoke and still make the effort to push on into the wilderness are committed to the cause.
