I was surprised and a bit disturbed to find some quite new structures last Sunday - perhaps best described as shelter sheds at two of the campsites near the Ruined Castle on the track to Mt Solitary. There was also a new toilet. The toilet is right on the track, very close to the old mine shaft (the one that sometimes provides a good water supply).
I am not sure what the rationale for the shelters is? Perhaps the downpipes from the roof will be connected up to a water tank in the future? The mine mentioned above was a very reliable water supply for many years, but has often dried up in recent years. Perhaps NPWS are establishing this site as a campsite for beginning bushwalkers (scouts and D of E etc)? Perhaps it will be set up as a "glamping" campsite?
I also wonder why a tent was pitched inside the shelter shed?
Also disturbing to find fresh trees cut down at Chinamans Gully on Mt Solitary and lots and lots of toilet paper near the campsites and creek! And the creek provides the water supply here!!
It is not too hard to dig a hole for toileting well out of the catchment area of the creek and well away from the campsite and nearby tracks.
