Not sure if this is in the right spot of the forum...but;

Aiming to head out to the Warrumbungles for an overnight camp trip to see the stars and do either the Bread knife walk or the Belougery spire walk in two weeeks, as it was burnt out Jan last year, has anyone been up there recently? How does it look?

I'm picturing lots of tall stumps with thick green undergrowth.

We were out there four weeks ago and it was lovely. Most of the tracks had reopened, except the stairway/track up the eastern side of the Breadknife. We had to take the track up the western side of the Breadknife, past Balor Hut to the saddle and then from there up to the Grand High Tops. The campground's still good and plenty of wildlife. birdlife has taken a big hit in some parts of the park but we saw loads of turquoise parrots on the track from Pincham car park to the Breadknife as well as spotted pardalotes, king parrots, crimson rosellas, wedge tail eagles, nankeen kestrels, peregrine falcons, plenty of kangaroos of course, didn't see any emus but saw emu poo, saw euros, thought we heard some koalas one night but didn't see any. Wildflowers were pretty good too, loads of purple and yellow peas, hardenbergia creeper, wattle in bloom.

As you drive in to the park it looks pretty much as you said - black charcoal trunks with a swathe of green regrowth beneath. But further into the park a lot of the bush is still in pretty good condition having not had such a 'hot' burn as the eastern access to the park. The walk to Bluff Mountain is fantastic and Mt Exmouth was largely untouched by the fire so it's looking pretty good.

So overall it is definitely 'open for business' and worth the trip. Still plenty to see and do.

Thanks. Looks quite good. Should be a good weekend away. Last time I was there I was quite young and can only remember flies, thousands of flies, on everything.
