Has anyone done the upper Allyn - it is a sort of canyon I believ, not dissimilar to the Upper Williams. I heard a bloke speak about it briefly a couple of years back and it sounds like fun.

Haven't done it but Greg Powell's book Bushwalks in the Hunter Valley has a description. Fairly steep down from Careys Peak and then all the waterfalls can be skirted. If you get the book he suggests avoiding the lower stretches of the Allyn and taking the Gilwinga Track. This exit is likely to be difficult to find and the track by now is likely not to be there. You will see lots of stinging trees.
