Rolling Ground - Whites River track

There is or was a 4WD track from the Rolling Ground to Whites River. This track goes more or less NE on a spur and comes out near Whites River. Has anyone been along this in summer recently, and if the track exists, how hard is it to find at the top? Thanks.

The track exists but it can be difficult to locate at the top. It is obvious at the bottom. There is a description of how to locate it in Chapman's AAWT guide (he gives a GR of 240807) but if you have time consider continuing across the Granite Peaks to DIcky Cooper Bogong. From there it is relatively easy to drop into Schlink Pass or direct to the Schlink Hilton.

Mark, thanks. The Whites River track is more of a fallback in case the weather clags. I've been up and down Schlink Pass - Dicky Cooper Bogong quite a few times. I may camp right on the east edge of the DCB plateau, at about 1900 metre or so, giving a nice view and downhill to start. From memory, the route curves slightly to the SE (right) as one descends to Schlink Pass, then curves NE (left) to hit the pass at a nice flat spot. I can't recall a track, but this may be flawed memory or have changed. Can you confirm this?

Sounds pretty right to me. Personally I always did that area on the good old 'make it up as you go along' basis. It hasn't killed me yet . . .

Agree - sounds about right. The main thing from memory is to head a little SE (200 metres) to avoid a gully running north and then east to keep on the ridge until you can sidle down into Schlink Pass when it starts to steepen up. Dicky Cooper Bogong is set well back to the western side of the ridge but like NNW I tend to make it up on the day.

To a large extent I also make it up as I go along. Not dead yet! Cue scenes from Monty Python and the Holy Grail and the Dead parrot sketch i find it easier to stay in one place if I nail my tent to the ground. Perches are at a premium above the bushline. I may attempt to find a dehydrated version.
Mark, thanks. If anyone hears a loud scream at the pass it means that i have fund the cliffs.

The top of the track consists of a fair bit of perforated steel planking, although not continuous. If you find some, you're there.
