We are thinking of attending the dawn service at Splendour Rock this year. Does anyone knows which bushwalking club and their contact details organise the event? We just wanted to coordinate our presence with the main organiser for safety, logistics, space allocation and programing purposes.

Hi Alex, thank you for the heads up. OK I'll email you our details. I am one of the leader of a MeetUp bushwalking club called Sydney Explorers. Steve

Just a reminder that both a dawn service and a servive ay 11am will be held this year at Splendour Rock. It's a real special service and it would be great to see some forum members out there.
Information about the event can be found in the two latest Bushwalking NSW newslenewsletters which can be found on the website via the above posted link.

any info on service 2016? I actually wanted to do this hike for a while and planned it for the long weekend. Then realized they do a service, will it be too crowded or a really nice experience? Does it get too busy?

Hi Elinekl,
Splendour Rock is well worth the visit, the view is certainly impressive.
As for the service, it's generally a small service held at dawn and attended by bushwalkers. I really enjoyed attending it last year, and I will be there again this year.
It does mean that there will be more people out and about in the area, so don't head out there with the idea of not seeing another soul.

Hi there,
We'd like to do the hike to Splendour Rock for the dawn service, but does anyone know options for getting to Dunphy's campsite via public transport? Looks like the closest station is Katoomba but would be a long walk from there to the campsite.
Thanks,
Nicole

If you didn't want to hike Narrowneck, then you would need a cab (or arrange a lift) to get to Dunphys. There are no buses that go that way.

And that'd be from Blackheath station than Katoomba station.

Will a cab even go along the Megalong Road?
Many years ago, I used to get taxis to all the trailheads in the Blue Mountains. Then, they stopped wanting to go on dirt roads. For a while, they could sometimes be persuaded if I agreed to pay a "car washing" charge on top of the regular fare. Hopefully, someone knows of a Blue Mountains taxi company that will still agree to leave the bitumen.
If you don't want to (or can't manage to) arrange to car share, the best option is surely to take your bicycle on the train to Blackheath station then ride to Dunphys. It's a nice quiet road.

That'd be pretty hardcore to have to ride with the pack and tackle the steep climb on the way back.

Best option to bike it I think would be to ride from Katoomba train station out along the firetrail to the end of narrowneck, leave the bike there then take the footpad off to the right down tarros ladder to medlow gap.
edit to make correction: 'medlow gap' not 'megalong gap'

Thanks for all the advice everyone and replying so quickly. Had never used this forum before, it's so great! Sounds like the best option is to bike it or arrange taxi or car share.
