Thinking of walking a loop: Kanagra - Cloudmaker - Strongleg - Paralyser - Thurat tops - Kanangra

Any notes on # of days, where to camp, water availability etc would be very welcome.

This could be done in a busy week end, but you'd have to be camped the Saturday night on Kanangra Creek. Don't go down Strongleg Buttress, but when you get to the top of Mt. Strongleg turn west along Moorilla Buttress and follow it to the junction of the two Kanangra streams, then last day out via Paralyser. Not much in the way of campsites along Thurat Range from memory, unless you carry water, which of course you will. Alternatively you can descend to Kanangra Creek by way of Mt. Marooba Karoo, in which case you would not go onto High Gangerang beyond Mt. Cloudmaker. That would make for shorter distance, though there is no track, and I can't say I've actually been that way. Haven't heard of anyone going over Marooba Karoo for a while, everyone so obsessed with doing the "K2K'. Have fun.

I went out to Mt Marooba Karoo during the Sevak Simonian search. Excellent views (big cliffs). Unfortunately we were on a very tight time budget so I have no photos, but I would definitely go back.

Probably a better option than the planned route, if you want good views, and easier to complete in a weekend.

in late 2013 I did something like this but in reverse (from Kanangra walls road to Paralyser, down to Kanagangra Creek at Thunder Bend, up Marooba Karoo to Roar Knoll, sign the logbook at Cloudmaker, then back to Kanangra Walls). It was a 'long hard day' - about 15 hrs all up (6am to 9pm). The only water ( apart from Kanangra creek) was a few rock pools near Mt Berry and again near Brennan Top.

I also did a trip last october where I descended the western ridge from Strongleg down to the Whalania Creek/Kanangra Creek junction - there was a big grassy clearing down there that looked a great spot to camp.

Hi Budawang, and welcome to the forum!

If you want to go from Cloudmaker to Paralyser, I'd also suggest going via Marooba Karoo. It's a short back track from Mt Cloudmaker, but it's a lovely spot (the attached photo doesn't really do it justice).

From there, you will be able to drink from Kanangra Creek before heading up to Mt Paralyser. It's then a walk along the ridge tops South West to Mt Thurat and the firetrail which leads back towards Kanangra Walls.

Check out information on the Three Peaks (which covers some of the same route) - http://www.david-noble.net/BlueMts/Coxs ... Peaks.html and http://members.ozemail.com.au/~aburke/p ... /index.htm

Here is a link to a photo album of a trip that went from the fire trail over Mt Thurat back towards Kanangra Walls off track - http://www.dingogap.net.au/albums/clubw ... 11Oct2014/

As for number of days, that really depends on what sort of experience you have, how much weight you want to carry, and how fast you want to go.
